I spy bunting – it must be summer! Or, at least, it’s Summer Fair season.

Thank goodness that each year, irrespective of varying threats of monsoon-style rainstorms and other climatic catastrophes, there are those amongst us who will give their time and energy to organising the PTA Summer Fair.

Given how warm and sunny it had been in the preceding weeks, the very mention of the phrase “Summer Fair” was almost certain to bring on the clouds and so it seemed would be the case once again. But whoever the patron saint of community events may be, they surely put in the overtime on this occasion and brought the sun once more to an overcast afternoon, just in time to brighten the barbeque and sun-drench the stalls.

So it was that the face painting, skittles, assault course and beat-the goalie drew their deserved crowds to St. Saviour’s Junior School, not to mention the children’s talent show and the somewhat less talented Head’s Band.

What better way to end a busy week (or year, come to that) than chatting in the early evening sunshine, a cold drink in one hand and the ubiquitous hot dog in the other, with the unmistakeable sound of children performing ‘turns’ for their parents and friends in the background?

As long as the organisers are prepared to organise, long may they continue to be rewarded with sunshine and fairgoers galore.
